Visit Jokyoji, Hozoji and Uchizakiyama

Welcome to Aridagawa, Wakayama, Japan.

Jokyoji and Hozoji are Buddhist temples of the Seizan Jodo tradition. We care for our temples, cultural heritage and the paths that connect them with the next generation.

Jokyoji Temple

The main hall was built in 1878. The temple continues its religious activities while planning for the future of the building and caring for its cultural heritage.

Address: 和歌山県有田郡有田川町長田542

Hozoji is working to sustain the temple and build new connections with people who wish to learn about and support its future.

Uchizakiyama, locally known as “Odaissan”

Uchizakiyama is one of eight sites in Kishu associated with the Buddhist monk Myoe (1173–1232). Small white shrines stand along the approach. We are maintaining and restoring this place with the 2031 memorial observance for Myoe as a milestone.

Before your visit

Please contact us in advance if you would like to visit the temple interiors, view cultural objects or meet the priest. The priest also works outside the temples on weekdays and may not be available without an appointment.

Please check parking, the entrance to the approach and current walking conditions before visiting. Wear suitable shoes for Uchizakiyama. Access may change due to weather or maintenance work.

Ask before photographing temple interiors, cultural objects or people. Please respect other visitors and religious services.
